Position Available: Organist/Choir Director

We are seeking an Organist/Choir Director for the merged United Church of Christ/United Methodist church, located in Foggy Bottom, close to the George Washington University, World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC.

Our church was founded in 1832 and has undergone renovations over the years resulting in superb acoustics for all to enjoy. We have a 1980 Führer (Wilhelmshaven, Germany) tracker organ with 21 ranks, 15 stops, mechanical action, and modified Werkmeister III temperament. Our Sanctuary also has a Baldwin grand piano. Currently, we have an adult choir of about 10 voices. In addition to our weekly English services, we also host bimonthly services in German.

Duties include:

  • providing music for weekly English services at 11 am and twice-monthly German services at 9:30 am year around

  • directing and accompanying choir rehearsals for worship services from September – early June

  • availability for occasional special services and special occasions throughout the liturgical year

  • an ability to work collaboratively with clergy and lay people from diverse backgrounds is essential

  • developing and leading additional musical experiences is encouraged

  • Part-time position, about 20-25 hours/month during choir season. Salary is negotiable,commensurate with experience. The opportunity to teach private lessons is available.
